Got Inspiration? Buttercup, Westly, Vizzini, Fezzik, Inigo Montoya...

"The easiest thing to do on earth is not write." - William Goldman, author, screenwriter, playwright

Seriously. This is so true. Anyone can not write. It is as easy as breathing.

Once you put pen to paper, though, you become part of an exclusive club - one that's hard to enter, harder to stay in, but has many, many benefits - one of which is, if you are also lucky, occasional publication.

  1. Have you read A Song of Ice and Fire, Joe? I hear that the Oberyn Martell vs. Gregor Clegane duel is a direct homage to The Princess Bride.

  2. I only read the first two in the series and don't remember this duel. But I also don't recall laughing that much while reading the books! The duel between Westly and Inigo in the movie is the duel that stands out and is really wonderfully comic and beautifully choreographed (without quick cut camera work, nothing sped up, just the two fencers lots of longer shots so you can really see the fight). Oh don't get me started. - Joe

  3. Whether your work is published, still in it's early stages making the rounds in your critique group, or if you've written a funny short story you only share with your best friend, the rush that comes from knowing you've touched your reader in some way, well, it's just priceless! ~~Karen

  4. The duel is in the third or fourth book, so you wouldn't have gotten there yet, Joe. And I totally agree about that one from the Princess Bride film. Great scene.
